Can Beagles Eat Mango? [Beagle Food Guide]

Can Beagles Eat Mango?

Yes, beagles can technically eat mango, however, I wouldn’t recommend giving it to your dog. it’s not necessarily going to agree with them, especially as beagles tend to be prone to stomach upsets. You’ve also got to be sure it doesn’t replace their traditional diet.

Why can Mangoes cause Stomach Upset in Beagles?

Mangoes may not be the best choice for a Beagle’s diet as it contains a substance called persin, found in the stem, leaves, and skin, which can cause stomach upset. If a Beagle eats too much of it, it can lead to vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as potential blockages in the digestive tract. It’s always a good idea to check with your vet before making any changes to your Beagle’s diet.

What to do if your Beagle has eaten Mango

If your dog has eaten a small amount of mango, it’s important to monitor them for any signs of stomach upset, such as vomiting or diarrhea. If your dog is showing signs of distress, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or any other severe symptoms, contact your vet immediately.

If your dog has consumed a large amount of mango, it’s possible they may experience an obstruction in their digestive tract. In this case, it’s important to seek veterinary care right away.

Otherwise, you can try to keep your dog hydrated and watch for any signs of discomfort. If your dog does not show any symptoms, it’s likely they will be fine. However, it’s still a good idea to consult with your vet to ensure that your dog is not at risk of any health issues.

In general, it’s best to keep dogs away from fruits that contain persin, such as avocados, mangos, papayas, and figs, as well as leaves, stem and bark of avocado tree.
